Code of Ethics

Introduction

As participants in our holy community – including members, lay leaders, clergy and professional staff (collectively “partners”) – we hold ourselves to the highest standards of personal and professional integrity, moral conscience, and social responsibility. This congregational code of ethics (“code”) articulates expectations for ethical behavior for partners and provides the structures and processes necessary to implement and enforce the code. By delineating expectations of all participants and identifying areas of potential ethical challenge, we strengthen both our sacred partnerships with one another and our holy community.

Bylaws

We believe that these Bylaws will serve us, the Congregation, well as we move forward as a healthy,
vibrant Jewish community. The Bylaws and the Board of Directors provide the avenue for us to
make this our Temple.

The TBT By-Laws Revision Committee was formed by the Board of Directors on August
23,2023. We met regularly, engaged in vigorous conversation, and did extensive
research, comparing the TBT Bylaws and Congregation needs to those of other synagogues of
various sizes and situations. With present and past TBT presidents, members of long duration
and those who joined more recently, we brought many perspectives to the table.

Most important, we all agreed that our goal was, and is, to work for the continued health of our
Temple and Congregation. To that end, our over-riding philosophy was to revise the Bylaws for
clarity, streamline the TBT governance structure and make it as flexible and agile to be
responsive to changing times, and to set up an organizational structure that encourages members
to join the Board if that is their interest, or for those with specific interests to manage projects
without needing to play a fiduciary role or attend monthly Board meetings.
